[어반스케치] 초보자를 위한 마테

It started with a workshop for schoolchildren. Being a correspondent is hard work. You have to be constantly on your toes and you never know in advance whether you will get five minutes or an hour to draw a situation with a decor that may or may not be complicated, between 10 and 75 characters who are involved in all kinds of actions, and at the same time you also want to make it look a bit atmospheric and casual.

During part two of the program, the maté ceremony with the instructors and the organizers, someone read a funny text about maté. I know that text, I thought, and then I asked one of the animators: "Who wrote that text?"
"Hernàn Casciari!"

I have to be honest. Normally I am always very faithfully present where duty calls me. But this time I really had a good reason to sneak away during the USK symposium 2024 opening reception.
Wait, don't judge me before you've read the rest of the story, even though it has little to do with USK.
I was personally invited by a friendly Argentinian lady Carolina to a theatre performance on the Avenida Corrientes (the street that never sleeps) by a certain Hernàn Casciari, with whom I had once had something to do; if you want to know more about that, google "Un Belga en casa".
I won’t tell more.
But what a surprise! After the play, I, who was just sitting in the audience next to Carolina, received suddenly a standing ovation, because I, the Belgian, was there live in the theater hall. It turns out that Mr Casciari has been closing his shows for years with the story and drawings about that weird Belgian artist.
 

And to complete the story: Hernàn Casciari ended his performance with his text about the maté, which we had heard during the ceremony this morning.

Please admit that this was a wonderful day with a story that HAD to be told. There is little chance that I will experience something as exciting again during this symposium of the rest of my days. So expect the next days less words and more nice little atmosphere sketches in which everyone can put their own story. And I wish everyone at least one unforgettable story during this symposium.
